Perth’s Scotch College has demonstrated how LED display technology can be effectively and sensitively integrated into environments that have been, traditionally, technology-free.
The college’s chapel was recently restored and the school addressed the thorny issue of incorporating large-format display technology in a way that would be sympathetic to the distinctive 1960s-era architecture.
Simon Hollingshead, the school’s Information and Learning Technology Manager, was tasked with finding a suitable solution. His first port of call was to Scotch College’s trusted audiovisual contractor, Design Build AV. “Via Design Build’s recommendation, we had the opportunity to visit Aurora Signage’s Osbourne Park Showroom to view a full-sized LED screen — an experience that was instrumental in the College’s decision to purchase the LED technology,” says Simon Hollingshead. “As both companies have West Australian offices, we knew technical support would be locally available, which is vital in technology purchases of this size.”
“We worked with Aurora and Scotch College to determine the optimal screen size and pixel pitch,” recalls Design Build AV Director, Mason Walmsley. “Aurora Signage was able to deliver the screen on site in a timely manner, such that we could meet our agreed schedules with the school.”
The new screen looks amazing. It’s not as large a display as you might expect from the traditional projection screen approach you normally see in a chapel setting, but the visibility (anytime of day) is undeniably superior and the Aurora Signage LED’s form factor ensures minimal impact on the interior architecture. “The final result of the installation has exceeded expectations,” enthuses Simon Hollinghead. “The display has allowed the venue to continue to be used as a traditional Chapel, but with access to the latest in technology. The quality of the fit and finish of the LED screen installation is excellent and complements the restored Chapel.”
“We have great confidence in specifying Aurora Signage,” explains Mason Walmsley. “The aftersales service is excellent and instils genuine confidence. We work with the client on an ongoing basis, so it’s our priority to ensure they’re totally satisfied with the product and the installation.” “The quality of the install is a credit to all parties and the final solution has been complimented by all who have used the venue,” confirms Simon Hollinghead. “I would highly recommend both Design Build AV and Aurora Signage.”
