Setting The Standard

The loudspeaker that sets the standard other high-end designs will be judged by for years to come. Endowed with every new technology the 800 Series Diamond has to offer, the reference-quality 801 D4 is an instant icon.

40 Years Of Excellence

Innovation. 801 D4 is defined by it. In each of its incarnations over the decades, 801 has always been the most advanced loudspeaker Bowers & Wilkins know to make at that point in time, a showcase of all their newest technologies and most original thinking. Small wonder it has become an icon.

State Of The Art

801 D4 is Bowers & Wilkins flagship and most powerful model in the new 800 Series Diamond range. Its no-compromise design included the most advanced technologies in their purest, most optimised form alongside crossover components of the highest quality. You want Bowers & Wilkins' reference loudspeaker? This is it...

Enhanced Matrix

Matrix bracing uses interlocking panels to reinforce loudspeaker cabinet walls in all directions internally, reducing resonance and creating a more believable soundstage. The Matrix assembly in 801 D4 is Bowers & Wilkins best yet, ensuring optimum scale, power and intelligibility.

Turbine Head

The all-aluminium Turbine Head houses the Continuum midrange cone in a stiff and critically damped enclosure to eliminate unwanted resonances. At the same time, it's decoupled from both the bass enclosure and the tweeter body. The result? The most realistic midrange sound yet.

Biomimetic Suspension

Sometimes, making a big difference takes unconventional thinking. Our new Biomimetic Suspension revolutionises midrange performance by greatly reducing unwanted air pressure and colouration that a traditional fabric spider can generate. The result? Midrange transparency you wouldn't believe.

Aerofoil Bass Cone

The Aerofoil bass cone technology remains an outstanding solution to the conundrum of combining low mass and high stiffness in bass cones, thanks to its carbon-like skin and variable-profile foam core. Now with a foam Anti-Resonance Plug for lower distortion and even cleaner bass.

Aluminium Top-Plate

The 801 D4 has a significantly upgraded cabinet with an all-new aluminium top-plate. This also provides a perfect mounting point for all-new Leather by Connolly trim, with luxurious black leather for dark cabinets and light grey for lighter finishes.

Decouple Midrange Assembly

Like its floor-standing siblings in the new range, 801 D4 has a dedicated midrange cone using three key Bowers & Wilkins technologies: the Continuum cone, Biomimetic Suspension and midrange decoupling, the latter ensuring minimal interference from the operation of the loudspeaker's bass drivers.

Reverse Wrap Cabinet

Instead of a conventional loudspeaker box, the cabinet in 802 D4 is made from a continuous curved section of wood, with the drive units mounted at the heart of the curvature. This stiffer, more inert structure resists mechanical resonances far better and also ensures better dispersion of sound.

Aluminium Bass Pods

801 D4 mounts two Aerofoil bass cones in twin solid aluminium bass pods, each of which is clamped into an aluminium plate fixed to the stiffest part of its curved cabinet. Formed as single pieces of metal, these stiff structures provide the perfect mechanical location for these powerful bass cones.

Aluminium Plinth

A great speaker needs a rock-solid foundation. The 801 D4 uses a downwards-firing Flowport exiting on to a solid aluminium plinth, complete with a steel constrained layer damping sheet, which controls unwanted resonance. It also has greatly upgraded spikes for maximum stability and durability.

Solid-Body Tweeter-on-Top

The Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top housing features an elongated form with a longer tube-loaded system and an all-new design of tweeter grille, producing an even more free and open sound for high frequencies.

Diamond Dome Tweeter

One of the most significant accomplishments over the past two decades, the ultra-stiff, supremely accurate Diamond dome tweeter is the perfect combination of low mass, exceptional stiffness and outstanding accuracy. 15 years after Bowers & Wilkins introduced it, the engineering team still haven't found a better tweeter dome technology.
